Vengeance Sensing Perms Post

Kahl is the god of vengeance in his canon!

Consequently, he can sense vengeance and its impact on people. He won't know the details, but he'll know the general ways it's shaped someone's life, and how strongly.

For example, he wouldn't know that Batman's parents were murdered by a thief in an alley after a movie, and now he's a secret superhero, but Kahl would know that he suffered a terrible loss at a young age and that he shaped his whole life around responding to it!

If you're okay with Kahl having this kind of information about your character, please fill out the following:

Thanks fam!

1. Yes, it very much is. He wants to avenge the loss of his home planet, though the main person he wants to attack is his commanding officer, who didn't attack his planet or cause it to be lost.
2. The closest it's come is him contemplating killing his commanding officer a year-ish ago.
3. No
4. No
5. No, he can be an open book.
Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. He was tortured psychically a couple of years ago, so the leftover effects of that are still on his soul.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? - It is not. She'll feel vengeful for about five minutes if someone hurts her and then she'll lose interest. She'll be angry a lot longer if they hurt someone she loves.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? She has not. The vengeances she's taken have been petty.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? ACTUALLY YES. Mrs Santa Claus kidnapped Panda and held him hostage, and then attempted to de-age every human in the galaxy to a small baby to get back at Iris for banging her husband. It was super embarrassing.
- Roger the Naxian hacked a lot of missiles with insidious disco music and tried to turn them on the Earth to get back at Iris for ghosting him.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? - nope
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. - nope, she's an open book

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? - yes he can, as much as Iris can be defined.

Xie Lian
1. Vengeance isn't any sort of driving force. Xie Lian tried it and it's really not for him. It's shaped his life in absence but I don't know if that counts.
2. He tried two major acts of vengeance and neither went well. It was eight hundred years ago and it was just hollow and depressing.
3. Yes, a number of people have sought vengeance with various levels of it being personal/it being deserved. It impacted him deeply, mostly in terms of regret (for them more than himself)
4. No
5. Not that I can think of

6. Xie Lian is a god, though from a different cosmology

Nathaniel

1. Vengeance is basically the strongest driving force for Nathaniel. It's how he conceives of the workings of the world and is deeply important to him.
2. He has completed a number of acts of vengeance. He takes a certain satisfaction to from most of them, even when he's not necessarily happy about it. Three years ago was the big one,and also current.
3. Yes. How much it was deserved is complicated, but overall it was massive overkill. It had extremely deep impact, basically why he's committed to vengeance as a response.
4. He's completed acts of vengeance on the Barge, Daniel's gone so just Hakkai
5. Nothing I can think of at the moment

6. completely human

Fitz
1. Fitz is not driven by vengeance. He finds the idea uncomfortable.
2. He has killed at least one person in revenge for them killing his girlfriend. He has mostly managed to completely suppress this. It didn't really mean anything to him. A few years ago.
3. Not really
4. I don't believe so
5. No

6. Fitz is human, it's also complicated but I'd say not something that would show up

Quill

1. Quill is currently driven by vengeance. It's what she holds onto in order to hold onto motive instead of being even more lost in survivor's guilt. It's the reason she keeps going so it's very important.
2. Not really, or, at least, she doesn't consider what went on during her rebellion days to be vengeance. I don't know whether it would show up that way, but it wasn't her emotion.
3. Yes, and it was somewhat deserved. It stuck her on bodyguard duty and took away her choice so it impacted her quite a bit and she hates it.
4. Not really, not in this time on the Barge
5. Can't think of something

6. She's an alien, but I wouldn't say there's anything strange with her spirit/soul

Sanzo

1. Sanzo is driven by duty and self-hatred, mostly, but there is a bit of vengeance in there as it's because of having his teacher/dad killed in front of him. It's not really important to him compared to wanting to complete a task to try to make things up to someone he loved
2. Not really, though he did shot someone he really hated in the face semi-recently, but it didn't take him out. He is glad that he hurt him, but it doesn't mean much.
3. Yes, out of revenge for the people he killed on his quest, mostly, so deserved. He doesn't care much.
4. No
5. No

6. There is a bit of strangeness with his spirit/soul connected to his original existence as a god/he does currently have a mandate from heaven. He would hate to know any part of this.
ktizo: (🎵 unspoken requiem)

Hythlodaeus

[personal profile] ktizo 2023-08-08 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
1. Nope! No vengeance wanted or needed here, Hythlodaeus is pretty chill and despite everything that happened to his people and his world he doesn't harbour any real negative feelings beyond the sense of loss.
2. Again, no!
3. Nope. Hythlodaeus has never really done anything in his life to warrant somebody needing to take revenge on him.
4. N/A
5. I am cool with him knowing whatever!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

6. Hythlodaeus is an Ancient, with powers of creation, destruction and healing at his fingertips. He can also see souls- in fact, his power to see them is stronger than anyone else's in his world! For all his talk of being useless, perhaps Kahl would have reason to disbelieve him. He's also been in a state of purgatory for a very, very long time, and therefore his soul is at least twelve thousand years old from that alone.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? It's a driving force but not a consuming one. Norton is extremely vindictive when he feels he's been wronged, but not to the exclusion of living his life, and once he gets even he moves on.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? The biggest and also most petty act of vengeance Norton has done was killing all of Torchwood because he was pissed that a mediocre good old boy was promoted to head of Torchwood when he wanted the job. (Although he only meant to kill his boss. Everyone else was an accident that happened along the way.) That would have been either 5 years ago or 68 years ago depending on whether time loop counts.

He also once locked Jack Harkness in an alien energy filter, which basically tortured and almost killed Jack because Norton thought that Jack had trapped him in the time loop (Jack had not, but Norton didn't know that at the time). That was just a few hours prior to his canonpoint where he was brought to the Barge.

And Norton's been involved in a number of Barge revenge murders.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Envy killed Norton once because Norton had killed Daniel. (And Norton has held a grudge ever since.)

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Barge revenge murder cycles! I can't remember where (there were multiple occasions) working with Pagan and Rawne.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. I'm good with Kahl knowing anything!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? Not inhuman at all, but there's the 63 years dying repeatedly in a time loop if that's something Kahl would sense.

Arthur Lester
1. Vengeance is more important to Arthur than he wants to admit, but he can outwardly justify parts of it under the idea of righting a wrong, or calling it justice.
2. Arthur hasn't actively committed any major vengeances. Yet
3. Not at his current canon point, but he has memories of the King in Yellow tormenting him with his own memories and trapping him in a prison pit for three months. The KiY suuuuuper wants to vengeance Arthur to get John back.
4. Nothing on the Barge yet, shockingly.
5. Arthur would react incredibly negatively to Kahl knowing anything about his daughter, but everyone else would be fair game.

6. lmfao. Okay so Arthur's soul is entangled with an Elder God's, and possibly something else is going on to keep him alive though that's purely speculation and he won't exactly be subtle about that.

Hunter
1. Vengeance is absolutely not a driving force for Hunter.
2. He's committed massive vengeful acts on behalf of Belos, in his quest to kill all witches, in getting all the wild witches rounded up and branded to get them killed on the Day of Unity, among other things.
3. Kikimora in particular despises him and has made a personal mission out of trying to kill Hunter in a misplaced need for attention from their boss Belos. And also his uncle Belos explicitly made him to use as a punching bag for his feelings about his brother (who Hunter is cloned from) and when Hunter questioned that, tried to kill him. Multiple times.
4. Yes! Kikimora shoved him off a cliff in a cave port.
5. Everything's fair for Hunter!

6. Hunter is a Grimwalker, which is essentially a necromantic clone of someone with their own personality and mind, and was made explicitly to be abused by Belos and controlled like he wanted to control his brother.

Doug Eiffel
1. Eiffel is literally the least revenge driven character ever.
2. He's definitely had some petty slights in the past, but nothing foundational to his character is vengeance-related.
3. Eiffel has been caught in other people's vengeance quests! Hera nearly asphyxiated him trying to get revenge on Hilbert.
4. Nadja attacked him and Makima exploded him, both in revenge for his part in calling the Authority on the Barge.
5. Everything is fair game!

6. Eiffel is like 2% alien by volume. If that matters in any way.

Max DeSoto
1. Vengeance is a driving force for Max, but he'll couch it in like six layers of hypocrisy first.
2. Shortly before he was brought into the game he beat a fellow ex-prisoner to death for making a joke out of his search for enlightenment and making him spend like ten-plus years searching for a forbidden religious text, only to find out it was written in French.
3. Oh yeah, probably. Nothing explicitly canon comes to mind except for the above, which only instigated because said victim was sick of Max's attitude and wanted to give him a hard time.
4. No revenge on the Barge yet!
5. Nothing comes to mind!

6. Apart from a double moebius reacharound of hypocrisy, he's a perfectly average, somewhat malnourished human.

Una Persson

[personal profile] una_persson 2023-08-08 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
  1. Una is driven primarily by justice rather than vengeance, though she isn't above a bit of petty revenge from time to time. It's not her primary motivation, however.

  2. There are a couple of acts of personal vengeance in the novel The English Assassin. CW for sexual assault: during a war in an alternate 20th-century Britain, she is captured by enemy forces who subject their first female prisoner of war to public humiliation and a gang assault. When she escapes, she has her ship shell the village. In another incident, she murders a woman who has just killed one of her friends. There have been other incidents of varying seriousness over the very, very long time she's been alive; Kahl will get a sense that she has done A Lot Of Shit.

  3. I'm pretty sure that other people have taken acts of revenge against her, although I can't think of any obvious examples at this moment. (I'll update if I find any good ones in my canon reviews.) She would say she deserved them.

  4. During her original tenure on the Barge, her inmate shot her in an act of what he considered retaliation for the uncertainties she introduced into his life. (oh hey, found it! also her post reporting on the incident, which fucked her up quite a bit.)

  5. Go nuts! Also, Una is about 90% normal human, but there is definitely some weirdness going on with her that Kahl will not miss. There's a vibe about her that's not unlike a Time Lord, in that she's a veteran of moving through time, but she also travels through parallel realities—what in her canon is referred to as "travelling the moonbeam roads". She is very old, though she doesn't age, and her soul will seem to be some kind of multifaceted thing that adapts to the various realities she inhabits. Feel free to grab anything you like from her app or from the canon-tagged posts in her journal.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?
Vengeance is the only thing that Florian survived for. It is the central driving force in his life. Now, to a lesser degree, he is trying because of Johann but in a sense, that's also because of 'vengeance' as Johann is his vengeance made manifest by his goddess. It's everything.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?
Florian has spent the last 15 years total draining as much money and influence out of those he can via his magecraft and the last 6 years since hitting the workforce sabotaging and destroying the profits of those he believes have wronged him and destroying the industries of the city that wronged him. His last acts during his last days was literally to kill everyone in those places with an uncurable plague that he developed. So. YEAH HOWDY. Most recently on Barge, he went after Henry for his attack on the Barge that hurt him and Johann.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?
Sort of? We know Ainsley suspected him of being responsible for all the business ventures failing and given Ainsley's own preying on his family's finances, that's iffy. It didn't really impact him since his death came after the hunter wanted to spare him and he refused.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?
Just the Henry thing. There have been lesser vengeance done to Malcolm but it hardly is worth mentioning.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.
Nope! Though he's intensely private, had to be to survive, and so being confronted with it directly will have a high likelihood of negative reaction.

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

6. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it?
Florian is a mage, does not consider himself human, and 'touched' by a goddess from his own canon (what with her having blessed him with a hallenkind and all). Go for it.

1. Absolutely. He wants so desperately to make the billionaires pay for what they did to his loved ones and, in his mind, to the whole planet. It's so important he's spent 5000 years working on it. There's also something to be said for him nuking the planet and devouring all the other planets lifeforces for it, etc. He's said to be absolutely, tragic-flaw-level vindictive.
2. Off barge, not for a long time until very recently. He's set himself up into a situation where people don't or can't fuck with him much. Then, just before he came, he was betrayed by his two oldest friends and he absolutely annihilated one of them and dragged the other to hell. On barge, he revenged Iris on Johann when he murdered her.
3. AYUP. Said two oldest friends did that for his secrecy and for, in their mind, being responsible for the murders of their most important people (their cavaliers). How much that last one is John's fault is somewhat wobbly.
4. Johann murder and subsequent torture was on Barge!
5. Whatever happened with Alecto, also his origins. That's his (also a lot of pieces are still a little wobbly and I don't want to fuddle ith it too much until last book is out).

6. His soul is partially or completely (UNCLEAR!) swapped with the soul of the planet Earth. Also Necromancer Prime, dealing with spirits and souls and etc. is his jam. He also took in all of the life/death energy of all the planets in the solar system and the sun so... that probably feels like A Lot.

  1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? — Avalon doesn’t have emotions. So, not really. The one person (well, not-person; see #6) who has “harmed” them is their brother, who prevented them from killing one of their victims. They wanted to know who he was, but they haven’t been interested in hurting him.
  2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? — No. They kill because it works for them, not for any sort of emotional gratification.
  3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? — Hakkai killed them, as did the woman who landed them on the Barge in the first place. She basically figured out that they were trying to kill her and then opened fire with a machine gun.
  4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? — Hakkai killed them on the Barge.
  5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. — Nope! Everything is fair game, including their Barge experiences!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision:

  1. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? — Lol, this is the fun part. Avalon is a Passenger, a type of being from their home world that lacks a distinct identity and is basically a magical, void-dwelling shadow creature. They also don’t have a soul. They’re currently depowered, so Kahl might sense that their magic is kind of locked inside them, and that they’re cut off from sensing others in the way they used to. They’ve also died multiple times now. You and Kahl can go to town on all their inhuman weirdness!

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Not really. She's more of an "in the moment" type as far as getting up in people's faces.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? Not that we've seen.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Not that we've seen.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? N/A

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. She's kind of an open book as far as psychic/mind-reading stuff tbh!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? No, but there's an ambiguously spooky "darkness" that some characters on the show have said is "in them" -- it's left ambiguous on purpose. It could be some kind of malevolent entity from the wilderness, or it could be their deep trauma. Or both. Feel free to use that as you will!

Root

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Yes. It's not the sole driving force in her life, but she holds grudges forever. People who have wronged her or her people (whether the wrong be big or small, or whether her or her people were in fact in the wrong or not) deserve to be punished. She spent over two decades sending reminders of her kidnapped childhood friend's last night before disappearing, to the people who failed to take young Root's reports seriously. Later, we see her grow vicious in her search for Shaw, and she's only too happy to murder the woman who shot Shaw nearly to death.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? For Root, revenge is her right, taking justice into her hands. Months or a year ago, she murdered Shaw's almost killer. It wasn't as satisfying as she wanted it to be. The decades-long torment inflicted on the people who failed her in her youth meant everything to her, the only way to even begin to avenge her friend's kidnapping. It only ended when the protags solved the case and got her friend a proper burial.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Root has a gift for disappearing and avoiding consequences. That said, Shaw got a chance to shoot her in retaliation for that one time Root kidnapped her, she yeah, she deserved it. It was kinda hot, if she's honest.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Nope! But the odds are high she'll end up involved in a revenge plot somehow before she starts to get better.
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Nah, have fun with it!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? Does having a cochlear implant that's modified to facilitate to receive direct communication from an artificial superintelligence she considers a god... count? Have fun with it!

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?
Not currently, but it was her sole purpose in life for years! She was betrayed and left for by the only person she fully loved and trusted, someone she'd built her whole life around, and didn't know how to build on any foundation other than revenge afterward. Which is, of course, what brought her to the Barge.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?
Yes! She took her revenge after she graduated, she just took it differently than she originally planned. She only targeted the people who had earned it, rather considering anyone else a valid tool or acceptable collateral damage in her pursuit of revenge.

Specifically, she destroyed a palace, killed a king and queen, and threw off the pitch of the rest of society that had ostracized her, weakening their music and their magic.

By the time she graduated, going to take revenge felt like the satisfaction of finished business, but not the end of her purpose of being. It felt like permission to leave all of that behind and hold onto something better.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?
No

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?
No, unless you count the flood where Signy replaced Ulla on board, and she got smashed to death up on deck and Ulla was spitefully pleased even while she suffered the death toll after.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.
Everything is fair game!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

6. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it?

Ulla is only half human, and even that half is full of weird power rather than baseline nonmagical human. I'm not sure quite how this translates in terms of his ability, though, so feel free to ping me and talk things through.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? It is such a driving force that he is actually here on the Barge because he goes too far with it. This is partially because he made it his life's mission to kill the man who had tortured him and framed him for (many) murders. But more than that, it's the way his own darkness manifests. He spent a lot of his life being mistreated and/or neglected by various people, and he wants to champion them- he just has realized he prefers to protect them with a blade to the predator's throat.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? He actually did manage to kill the man he'd devoted his life to killing, Hannibal Lecter- even after he fell in love with him (it's complicated). He considers it his Becoming, a fundamental change in who and what he is. He came to the Barge directly from that, so it's been about six months. It's only faded a little in importance to him since then, as it's no longer the only thing that matters.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?
Yes, but the level of escalation was not deserved. Will used a tactic to enrage a serial killer and get him to come out of hiding, by making a news article demeaning the killer. That serial killer then went on to attack Will's wife and stepson. They managed to get away, but Will realized then that he couldn't have a life with them anymore.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?
The only thing that happened on the Barge was Lestat attacking Malcolm, whom Will cares for deeply. Will would've attacked him in retaliation (or tried to), but his Warden and Malcolm kept him from going. It's been the part of being on the Barge he's hated the most.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. No, go for it!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? Will is completely human, he's just been through a lot.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?

He harboured a lot of resentment before he died, but it wasn't aggressive or proactive enough to be vengeful. He dreamed about Avalir burning while he was isolated and grieving, and a part of him yearned for it. But those urges went against his entire life philosophy, which was ultimately far more important to him.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?

No. Well, not on purpose; if Kahl can sense the guilt of "sometimes I fantasised about this horrific thing that is now actually happening" he definitely should.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?

Asmodeus' thirst for vengeance against mortals as a whole is what killed and transformed him. None of them deserved that in general, but his very particular brand of hubris gave Asmodeus the opening he needed.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?

No.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.

Nope!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it?

He should definitely be able to see that Zerxus sold his soul to a god who wants to punish everything he hates (aka: everything) with eternal torment.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? No, but justice is and there is sometimes a fine line there. He’s more interested in protecting the vulnerable, but he has found justice someone lacking for violent transgression on the Barge and that could start to push him a little towards vengeance as justice in time.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? He almost did. When a powerful billionaire hurt people, including people he cared about, and seemed to own the system and seemed likely to escape justice because of it, Malcolm considered shooting him to the point of pulling a gun on him, but in the end he only told him that he would find the evidence and arrest him. The dilemma was taken out of his hands when his sister stabbed the guy to death a moment later.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? The aforementioned billionaire framed him for murder, but it was more about things his father did than anything he did. On the Barge, Laura Moon punched him at a party because she didn’t like things she described as him ‘overstepping’ in his zeal to help people throughout his time on the Barge.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Laura punching him in retaliation for his big mouth happened on the Barge. Also Lark Tenant (now gone) and Will Graham (his boyfriend) had to be stopped from getting revenge on his behalf after Lestat cut his throat during a tense discussion they had.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Nope. Go nuts.

6. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? Malcolm is a werewolf now. Lark turned him before he disappeared from the ship. So he has a kind of wolf soul now and it’s pretty new.

Ye Zun (this account)
1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Yes, it is a driving force in his entire life, starting way back when he was a bitty little boy all the way up to today. The type of vengeance has changed though, within the last few years on the Barge he isn't seeking out the focus of his past revenge since they are now over that part of their lives and are trying to work towards the goals that he also wants - with a side order of maybe killing here and there despite his twin's best wishes.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? Yup, he has. It was perfectly gruesome and fun but also Completely Surprising since up to that point he didn't know he could do that until it was finally triggered. It actually kinda scared him that he was able to do that but he was a traumatized baby at the time. (Guardian canon is a mess but basically his ability allows him to 'eat' anyone, and he ate his tormentor/master/kidnapper when his power first manifested.)

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Oh yeah, he is the Big Bad of his canon in like the Final Boss and he is not shy about admitting that fact. It was really well deserved and he got his just deserts but being what he and his twin are, they actually made up after the murder/suicide thing they did right before coming to the Barge. Which is where his attitude towards his twin changed.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Not really. The Barge is his place of second chances and he used it to make up with the people he had hurt and learn a bit more of control and now he is a happy Warden that tinkers a lot and has a following of insects.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Great details about the abuse he suffered as a kid. It's not that much of a secret but he doesn't need others to know all the details.

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision, 5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? Ye Zun and his twin Shen Wei are members of a race of naturalized aliens called Dixingrens. They are also old as balls as even said aliens count years ( which they kinda don't? time in Dixing is weird. ) The planet they come from has three separate races - the humans, the Yashou (shape shifters) and the Dixingrens which are underground deep dwellers with hidden abilities fueled by the planet's core and/or space. The twins are OP in that Shen Wei can copy any ability he sees while Ye Zun inherits any ability of whoever he eats. At this point in time they are over 10,000 years old, and while they spent a large portion of that in stasis, they still powerful, especially now with the twins sharing energy, thus sharing powers. Also Ye Zun is currently babysitting all the insects on the ship that aren't claimed by another person.

Wu Xie ([personal profile] ragsnbone)
1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Tricky but possibly a soft yes? He is in the middle of a plot created to destroy a 3,000 year old cult of highly specialized people to save his BFF and his other friends from being hounded by said cult. Because they made him mad and such.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? Yes he has though most of it had been small petty stuff until fairly recently. The acts have gotten darker in the past few years, that for sure, and it made him sad at times because it shouldn't be this way, even though the future needed to be free of this cult.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Yes they have, and it was kinda deserved? But at the same time, he has this luck in which most of the people that try to kill him somehow, someway just don't try after a while? It's weird.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Nope, Wu Xie has his cameras and his BFF and his Warden so there's no need for him to drop his smiles and pick up his knife.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Wu Xie is an open book, but also a confusing one as mentioned below.

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision, 5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? He is a normal human, with a normal abit rich upbringing and a slight taste for a little pettiness of most humans Up To A Point. Said point is that there's a kinda weird thing of how he is a normal person but also has the souls? of? memories? and? snakes? all tied to him. Canon is kinda weird at that but in essence as part of his vengeance thing Wu Xie hunted down these special critters that are a kind of snake that sleep inside rocks until awaken. These snakes record what they see and can share anyone with a certain gene - one which Wu Xie has. He purposely took all the snakes and after getting the memories re-wrote them so the 3,000 year old cult cannot have them. Also Wu Xie might have had a small piece of his soul sent back in time via something called the Bronze Tree and has had contact with meteorite jade and the Bronze Gate, both of which connect to something called The Ultimate. Canon hasn't really revealed what this is but it is such a big thing that it is a closely guarded secret that the 3,000 year old cult has been trying to get at while manipulating the world more to their favor.

Cloud Strife

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Not a major one, currently. That was once everything to him, though.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? He once stabbed and threw himself and another guy (Sephiroth) off a cliff for vengeance, so it was kind of a completed act! He very nearly died and managed to kill Sephiroth. Makes dating them pretty awkward, at times, but Cloud doesn't exactly... regret doing any of it, lol. It was roughly half a decade ago now!
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Yes, kinda? Minor stuff that he doesn't even think about tbh.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? No
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Nah, he can know the gist of all that stuff up there.

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? Yeah, Cloud's very closely tied to Sephiroth and Zack (if those players are cool with him knowing that). They probably read as sharing something akin to spiritual energy?

Otherwise, he's not human and probably feels almost... deity-level strong in some areas, despite feeling very human in terms of lifespan and all.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? It is not! Lahabrea is capable of not insignificant depths of anger, but has little interest in actual vengeance at least as of his current canon point.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? It's complicated. Half of Lahabrea's soul was, for a time, basically its own entity separate from him and though that entity was eventually sealed away it spent most of its existence being angry and vengeful even if it never manage to complete any major acts of vengeance.

Also while it was not directly a result of vengeance, Lahabrea did end up in a situation where he had to kill his wife and he has never quite recovered from that, if that would ping on Kahl's radar.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? As of his current canonpoint, no.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Nope! Lahabrea is still too recently arrived for that kind of Barge shenanigans.
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Nope, but there are some things he will refuse to talk about much, if at all.

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? So you know that bit about how part of Lahabrea's soul became its own entity? Yeah, he tore out half of his own soul willingly. He has since accepted that part of his soul back into himself, but his soul still bears the scars of it. Kahl is perfectly welcome to pick up on this, but Lahabrea will largely refuse to speak about the hows/whys.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? - Not a driving force, but an occasional new weakness.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? Attempted several, never completed. Each one has frightened her.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Yes, Bonesaw sliced into her skull after Taylor and her cadre killed Burnscar in self-defense. She has a permanent scar, and lasting trauma.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Taylor's aborted attempt to kill Quill after Quill killed Ulla happened on the Barge, in Zero.

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? Taylor is full human, but has an inhuman passenger, an important fragment of the soul of a dead alien with inter-dimensional god-tier powers. The fragment has had 19 years to erode the edges of her mind and soul, replacing her with itself. Her new urges towards vengeance come entirely from it. The erosion is currently paused as her powers are nerfed.

He himself is stronger for having healed around the damage.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Yes and No. Peter Wronged is Peter Wrathful, and he's very quick to decide he's been wronged, but his attention span is usually short.
Unless something has been stolen from him. Then he's a scorched earth sort. If he can't have it, no one can.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? Completed, no. He left Charlie to be eaten by the Many-Eyed because he blamed him for Jamie's betrayal. He died in the process of trying to destroy everything of Jamie's in revenge for Jamie having ceased to love him. But he fully intended to see Jamie bereft and then make sure he suffered that loss forever.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Jamie killed him. He definitely had no choice - Peter was going to keep killing until Jamie was alone on the island with him. But he also killed him because Peter killed his mother, his friends, and almost everyone Jamie had ever loved.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Not yet.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?
It's not a major driving force! Misty is an extremely spiteful person, and she has historically gained satisfaction from taking low-level petty revenge against those who she feels have wronged her, but her primary motivators and interests are in other areas. Revenge is more of a nice bonus or impulsive whim than a major goal.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?
Not that canon has made clear so far (though this may change as future seasons reveal more flashbacks). That said, she's committed minor acts of vengeance that ended up having major unintended consequences, so if that's something he'd be able to get a bead on too, let me know and I can elaborate.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?
It's not a driving force of hers in the long term, but there are times when it has been in the short term. Shaw is eerily good at compartmentalization, and long-term vengeance fixations tend to be detrimental distractions, so she's not the type to let one consume her - but that doesn't mean that revenge for wrongdoing is unimportant to her, or that she won't take the opportunity for it when she sees a window.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?
When her ISA partner was killed for asking too many questions about the project they were working on, she prioritized figuring out the full scope of what had happened, then chose to kill the person who she felt was most at fault: not the higher-ups who had given the kill order, nor the footsoldiers who had carried it out, but rather the handler who had known both her and her partner personally, and who she felt should have been able to come up with a less extreme way to diffuse the situation. She was both satisfied with and completely guiltless about the results; as far as she was concerned, it was justice served. This happened approximately three years before she came to the Barge.

Additionally, when a good friend was killed by a dirty cop, she knew the full scope of the situation (including the who and the why) from the get-go - and so she prioritized vengeance for the sake of it, going after allies of the killer in hopes of being able to beat his location out of them. However, when another friend was in trouble and needed help at the same time, she prioritized helping the living friend over avenging the dead one (though the two missions did end up dovetailing). Eventually, her friend's killer was arrested (not by her personally, but with her support) and then killed (neither by her nor with her help) - and even though she didn't "close the case" personally, she does consider it completed, and she was satisfied with the results here, too. This happened approximately two years before she came to the Barge.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Not so much of a driving force anymore, but there are still ripple effects that seem to come from several different sources throughout her life that she hasn't confronted completely.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? That would be killing a man known as Mr. Wednesday (Odin) shortly before her arrival on the barge. It was a major arc for Laura halfway through S2 and throughout S3 of American Gods, so I'd say it was pretty important.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Laura came under attack for punching Malcolm Bright and depending on how you look at it, the severity of the attack against her wasn't exactly fair (she took a beer mug to the face resulting in several stitches and a broken cheekbone), even if she did deserve some kind of punishment beyond getting banned from the lounge for the night.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Yes, Kikimora (Malcolm Bright's inmate), in the speakeasy.
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Nothing that comes to mind, nope!

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? In canon, Laura is cynical and has lost trust and belief in many of the things that keep people hopeful and optimistic (love, faith, magic, etc). She has died several times and spent over a year as a walking, talking decaying corpse that was being kept alive by a leprechaun's lucky coin (Mad Sweeney, also on the barge) before being brought back to life. I figure this could be something confusing given she's died a grand total of 5 times, four times in canon, once on the barge.

  1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? — If you hurt Ouni’s friends, he will kill you without a second thought.
  2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? — SO. Literally right before he arrived, his best friend was killed, and he proceeded to murder almost everyone in the room. Said murderous rampage wasn’t entirely under his control, but he would have done something similar had he not lost control of his powers.
  3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? — Nope!
  4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? — Not on the Barge.

If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? — He’s essentially made from the souls of previous daimonas, sort of, so Kahl will sense multiple souls. However, Ouni knows nothing about this and won’t be able to explain.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Strange's canonpoint before arriving on the Barge was to try and fuck up the fairy that kidnapped his wife. At the moment, vengeance is a driving force.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? Most of Strange's actions have been petty spite (writing a book review solely to shit-talk a book he hates) or wartime prowess (yes these soldiers might have killed your friend and you want to kill them for it, but they're also trying to kill you) over major acts of vengeance.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Vengeance is one of the reasons Strange got cursed in the first place - a fairy cursed him in retaliation for his (real or perceived) slights.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? not yet!

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Nothing I can think of.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? At this point in her life, yes. It's literally the only thing keeping her alive and moving forward. On top of all the other trauma she's suffered since the virus destroyed the world in her canon, Rosita has just watched a man she loved and a dear friend of hers brutally murdered right in front of her, and she is focusing all of her pain and trauma from everything into murdering the man who did it right back. She's willing to die to do it, as she herself says, "as long as he goes first." This is not normal for her overall, but it is her lowest point, and here we are.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? She has already taken one potshot at Negan, but his plot armor blocked it and he killed one of her people instead of her and took her best friend hostage because of it. She's still trying though.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? No.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Not yet but stay tuned.
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Nah.

2. Very recently. Days before his arrival to the Barge. He killed the man who killed his Empress, but was stopped before he could killed the men who betrayed him and took his daughter.

3. Not in a large way. Any vengeance taken on him was always because he was simply in the way. Not retaliation for an actual slight.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?
---LITERALLY all he lives for. He hates Peter with a fiery passion. There is nothing but hatred for Peter in him, and the desire to avenge his mother and Sal alongside every one of the boys he loved over the years. He holds Peter responsible for their deaths and now that he knows the pirates better, has lived among them, he holds him responsible for stringing them along and killing them too.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?
--He did, by challenging Peter to Battle and nearly killing him. He wishes he could do more but he can't given the situation. It was about 200 years ago.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?
--Nip, one of the boys, was manipulated by Peter and thought that Jamie was cheating and being unfair to him but it wasn't actually true or deserved. Nip was 100% the aggressor and trying to cause trouble. Peter considers his 'curse' against Jamie to be vengence but that's just because the person he considered his possession rebelled.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?
--Peter's been attacking Jamie in 'revenge' for killing him but this Jamie didn't actually accomplish it so... questionable!
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.
--Nope!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it?

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? Yes and no. Vengeance is sort of a driving force to Pyotr in the sense that I think he sees revolution as partially about "the people's revenge." He is not exactly obsessed with getting vengeance on his father (who abandoned him as a very young child), but despises him and when the opportunity falls into his lap, he certainly is not going to pass it up. It motivates a lot of his actions during the events of his canon. It's not the most important thing, but it's high on the list of priorities, at least during the time the canon takes place, and he certainly enjoys it and really would delight in knowing his actions led to his father getting sick and dying.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? He caused a dramatic (actually hilarious-) scene that publicly humiliated his father and got his father kicked out of the house of his long time friend/patroness who had been paying his bills for the past 20+ years. He ruined their friendship and put efforts into getting his father ostracized from the town. He found this all very satisfying because he has hated his father since he was 16, and his father spending his inheritance (left to him by his deceased mother) combined with some insensitive, obtuse statements written in a self-pitying letter from him about the loss of the inheritance has just made his opinion of the man even lower. This was a few months before his arrival on the Barge.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? Yes, it's stated in canon that Pyotr has a lot of enemies because of the shit he pulls with his lies, schemes, and ripping people off. His manipulations tend to involve people thinking they're close to him, that they're friends/comrades/etc so when he fucks them over it stings. Since he has no canon death, I decided one of these people would eventually get revenge by murdering him (getting him sent to the Barge). He feels the man who did it is a mediocrity and his natural inferior, so therefore is furious and denies it ever happened most of the time.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Not yet on the Barge. Stay tuned.

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? I'm most hesitant about Kahl knowing about anything from answer 3, simply because Pyotr is so salty about it and also likes to have his secrets, so I kind of don't want Kahl to know everything, ya know? But I think they could connect over bad dads and revolution, so that stuff is fair game!

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? Just an ordinary human!

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?

It used to be one of her primary drives! Her first death was one of pure spite; better not to exist if it meant taking down someone who'd ruined her life. It didn't consume her quite as much the second time around, but it still informed a lot of her choices.

It's taken a backseat recently, partially because she's realised a lot of her hatred was misdirected or (mostly) forgiven people for failing her, and partially because there are more important things to focus on. But if you put Sinister in front of her she would happily rip him to pieces, and she has no qualms paying back Orchis all the hurt they've done to mutants while she tries to protect them.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?

The first time she pulled New York into hell it was her vengeance on the world in general. It felt good in the moment, but remembering it never made her feel powerful and satisfied again. She was still being used, in the end, and it almost cost the life of her son. This was years and two deaths ago.

Her second act was more contained and impulsive, lashing out in anger at someone who confronted her with being a ghost. Frankly she doesn't care about it nearly as much as she ought to. This was during her second chance at life, in which she also made a lot of noise about fucking up the X-Men but never really did.

Lastly, and very recently, when Alex was killed in action she instantly killed everyone involved and she would do it again.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?

Threnody, the woman she killed, did seek vengeance but never got the opportunity. It was definitely a justified impulse, and she'd probably admit as much if confronted with it.

She also ended up betraying Ben Parker, who helped her stage the second invasion of New York. He did manage to wrest control of Limbo from her for a bit, but ultimately did no lasting damage; her attitude towards it was largely "annoying but fair". He's serving a sentence in Limbo rather than a human prison, because she still considers him - a clone, lost and empty and furious - one of her own.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?

Nope!

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.

Nah, anything is fair game.

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it?

Madelyne's soul is a spark of the Phoenix Force that still carried Jean's essence. It's probably very 'well this is shaped like a human soul but it sure does taste different'. It's also - irrevocably, it seems? - marked by demonic magic, which is why she can form her scythe out of it. Not that she can do so on the Barge at the moment, but maybe he'll sense the shape of it.

Vincent suffered a very traumatic ordeal when he was 27. Though he still looks 27, that also happened almost 30 years ago. It has very much impacted his life and circumstances.

(If more detail would be obvious, we can totally discuss! I'm using your Bruce Wayne example for reference.)

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?

Not any more. He's got his vengance. Twice even!

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?

Yes! It was... possibly dull satisfaction and a bit of closure for the first time, some bemusement during the second time because a lot of weird things were going on at the time. The first time was three years before he arrived on the Barge, the second about uh... an hour or so since he arrived on the Barge. Honestly the second might be considered more like a side effect of the events than an actual act of vengeance.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?

Nope!

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?

Nope!

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.

Don't think so but if I haven't mentioned it here, please check! I'm always open to CR talk!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

6. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it?

He started life as a human, but has become very inhuman, has monsterous forms via shapeshifting. I'm not sure how much would be evident, but there's probably going to be something really terrible about the state of his spirit/soul due to what is referred to as 'stagnant mako' or 'Chaos energy' in his canon. He also plays host to a planetary WEAPON (something probably akin to a demi-god or godlike powerful thing) called Chaos. He 'doesn't age' and 'can't die', so I don't know if that would be discerned but it might be woven into his spiritual state so feel free!

Edit: PS he also has a piece of materia in his chest, that might be god-vision discerned. (materia is a crystalized form of some knowledge/'magic' that can be channeled and it's made out of the same mako/lifestream energy mentioned above). This one in particular gets used as a means of controlling Chaos in this particular instance.

1.Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?

Not highly important any longer. She is capable of vengeance and does enjoy it, but it's not a driving force in her life.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?

When she was 11 (20 years prior), she killed her father for the torment and sa that he inflicted on her. He noticed her madness and increased his tests and trials and she fought back.

Three men came to see her after she mutilated and kidnapped her suitors, and she locked them up. She did not kill them, but did torment them.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?

She was being hunted by her suitor's father, and he wanted vengeance on her for taking his son away. The Inspector, priest, and family friend came to lock her away and they tried to get to her. Her three suitors were forever chasing her, trying to kill/devour her for the torture she put them through. She was killed by one.

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?

Nope!

5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.

She has been touched by the star shaped soapstone, an artifact from another dimension, highly implied to be the cause of her madness and an Eldritch artifact. She has definitely been touched by this realm, though mostly in her maddest states.

1. Nico's more driven by logic and his care for other people, but there's still a streak of vengeance that's part of that that he does his best to not let shape his thinking
2. Not really, but he did watch acts of vengeance and he acted to stop them because they were hurting the person committing them
3. apart from the general misplaced anger at the kids who survived IAAN the incidents that probably count are a) Ruby's anger at him after Jude's death, which he considers deserved and did drive him (even more) towards the thoughts that sacrificing himself was the best way forward (though he thought that even without her anger) and b) Lark hurting him for Alec's death, which didn't impact him much
4. Lark, in the library
5. No

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? It was. It's still a fundamental building block of what made her who she is today, and she still carries it with her and probably always will -- it was her only reason to live for a while -- but it doesn't guide her anymore.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? Captain Ahab was to blame for the shipwreck of the Pequod, which Ishmael thought had killed everyone but her (and Ahab, who she was certain was out there somewhere, who would pay). Everything else in-between was just to get her to revenge.
To make a long story short, five months ago Ishmael had Ahab kneeling, at her mercy -- harpoon in her hand, ready to strike the captain down -- and realized: no. That wasn't what she wanted. Killing Ahab wouldn't bring Ishmael any peace; all it would do would be make her just like Ahab, whose life had been so perpetually ruled by vengeance against the Pallid Whale it'd kept her alive against all odds.
Ishmael ripped the Pallid Whale's heart from its flesh and left Ahab alive; a testament to her wandering years and what'd brought her to this point, and because stealing Ahab's vengeance was so much more of a punishment than killing her could ever be.
"I will watch you live. Because you are the proof of my wandering years.
So that I may endlessly struggle against the devouring seas. The testament to my sins. My Whale."

[...]
"... We'll let her watch as this place crumbles around her.
The Captain must go down with the ship, after all."

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? If it's happened at all, it wasn't anything meaningful!
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved? Nope, she's new here. This all happened back home in the City.
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs. Nope! Her backstory doesn't exactly map 1:1 to Moby Dick (book), though, but a lot's left vague.

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,
5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it? Ishmael is a Sinner -- alongside eleven others, her soul is bound by chains to that of her manager Dante (who can pull Sinners' soul from the gates of hell to reverse death and injury), and all Sinners have a mysterious connection to Golden Boughs, which are some variety of supernatural. There's some Weird Stuff happening in there.

She can also manifest her own feelings, drives, and goals in Snagharpoon, an ability that changes her appearance and gives her a unique weapon tied to her. This is a direct manifestation of her 'self' -- but it's not particularly stable or fully realized, so she can't manifest it for long.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?
Yes and no. Vengeance against a supposed slight was the catalyst for what he did, but then he did it for enjoyment.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?
He had an entire plot for vengeance. He had plans! He had players! He played chess for vengeance...mostly. Again, he also just enjoyed it. And it was pretty recently before the Barge.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?
lol, yeah. We'll call Othello arresting him and having him tortured and killed vengeance
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?
It's everything to Ciel, his path forward these days as he searches for those who killed his family and had his twin and himself sold into a cult (where they were tortured horribly and then his twin was killed).
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?
He's killed the owner of a strange circus that employed children to perform incredibly dangerous stunts (getting them killed) and harvested body parts to use in prosthetics. He then also killed everyone involved and burned the whole place down (via Sebastian's powers). It wasn't that long ago.
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?
One of the members of the aforementioned circus was revived somehow, and now wants revenge on Ciel for killing all of her family.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?
Nope, all within his canon.
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.
No, I'm good!

He has a demon seal on his right eye, the one covered by an eyepatch. I don't see why someone wouldn't be able to sense it, if they've got magic powers that'd allow for such a thing.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them?
Decided to respond to this post to clarify that this is NOT part of Walter's identity even if one might assume it is. "I'm not a revenge guy, I'm a results guy."
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it?
Pre-barge, (over the course of season 2) Walter developed a connection with Misty Quigley and killed Kevyn Tan with the goal of framing him for Misty's crime(s). Although he didn't think highly of Kevyn for the threat Kevyn posted to the Wiskayok class of '96, this was a means to an end.
On the barge, Walter developed the impression that Barge Misty (she's from season 1, these are separate verses) had been broken down by the barge cult to the point of not caring about her own freedom and happiness, and that attacking Arthur Lester would trigger her feelings. Even though this might seem like retaliation, ultimately it was once again a means to an end - he even believed he was acting efficiently in the degree of pain inflicted (even though he really wasn't...)
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them?
Pre-barge, NO.
On the barge, Walter was first subjected to a "magical simulation" of Arthur and John Doe's feelings about the above events, then slashed with a knife by Justine to draw blood intended to please John Doe. Walter firmly believes that John is a dark influence on her and is at best "lying to himself" about wanting retaliation against Walter.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?
See above
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.
I'm currently like "whatever" about this. I don't really think the "secret group" (a small group of barge-negative friends) falls under Kahl's umbrella.

(P.S. why is the last one not number 6...)

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it?
Honestly, in my head, when Walter was bound to Trevor's ancestral knife which was part of him like a third hand, and then they didn't actually unbind it, there's still a phantom part of him, but this isn't a confirmed magical phenomenon. It's more like how he feels.
He's a human inmate. ZzzZzzzz.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? No, Vash doesn't believe in vengeance. Edit: Rethinking this, while Vash doesn't believe in vengeance he also spent 150 years hating his brother for a terrible crime that his brother committed. There was a large period of Vash's life where he would have hurt his brother very badly in vengeance for that crime. He no longer feels this way, but he carried that anger for a long time.
2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? n/a
3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Oh yeah, and it was arguably very deserved. Vash, through no real fault of his own, was the cause of death for a whole city -- canon isn't precise about the death count, but it was easily 100k people. He wasn't to blame, but he still feels incredibly responsible and will carry that guilt with him forever. Over the years since that city was destroyed, many people have tried to track Vash down and kill him in vengeance for its destruction.
4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? No.
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? Nope!

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? Absolutely! Vash is not human. He's... well, again, canon isn't precise, but even though he's made of flesh and blood and bone, he's also a being made entirely of energy (although that energy is nearly drained by now -- he's a mostly empty battery, basically).

He also recently lost his twin brother and the very good friend that he was starting to have Its Complicated feelings about, and he also killed somebody, which broke a promise he'd made to his mother 150 years ago -- I really can't emphasize enough how opposed to killing Vash has always been, so this was a major sacrifice on his part. If Kahl can see souls, he could see that Vash's is pretty tattered and missing pieces. It's honestly a wonder he's still alive.

1. Vengeance is definitely a driving force for Nancy. She's faced a fair amount of abuse of varying stripes over the years, and while it's not her only motivation, being able to strike back against the people who hurt her and the world in general is definitely one of them.
2. She's killed two people, and while the first was a mixture of vengeance for a pattern of abusive behaviour and protecting her mother from assault in the moment, the second was straight up revenge-driven fury, complete with toying with her prey first. She also tormented and tried to kill a friend over a perceived betrayal (perceived being the operative word here). The first two acts fed into her escalating aggression and risky behaviour, culminating in the third, which occurred just before she was pulled onto the Barge.
3. There was probably some desire for revenge influencing how Sarah struck back at Nancy during their confrontation, but it's more an act of opportunity during what was largely self-defense than premeditated revenge. Other than that, nothing.
4. Nope!
5. From your description of the powers, it sounds like Kahl wouldn't get the full details anyway, but I'd like the perceived betrayal mentioned above to remain nebulous. It's something she'll need to confront in her journey, but it's a piece that will fit in better later.

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

6. Nancy's human, but she's been imbued with the power of a vast nature spirit. It's explicitly both light and dark in canon, and while Nancy resonates more with the darker/more destructive aspects, that's very because of who she is at the time she takes in and starts to use that power.

1. Is vengeance a driving force for your character? Why? How important is it to them? No. Thara is often in a position of being petitioned to find answers to aid in finding justice for victims of murder (or other crimes). Part of that involves seeing that restitution is made, or providing sworn testimony. But it's a position of service for him. And personally he's not... really motivated by his personal tragedies, much less toward acts of vengeance - he doesn't see himself as all that important outside that 'purpose' thing, honestly.

2. Has your character committed/completed a major act of vengeance? If so, what did that mean to them? How long ago was it? No.

3. Has anyone ever sought/taken vengeance on your character? Was it deserved? How much did it impact them? He uncovered a very illegal, nonconsensual pornography and blackmail ring being run by some very bad people in the process of investigating a death. This made a lot of people mad. The first act was enough complaints to what amounts to his archbishop resulted in him being sentenced to a 'trial by ordeal' where he was sent up to climb a haunted mountain - he escaped that unscathed. The second was when he was kidnapped by the head of said blackmail and pornography ring to the crypt UNDER the mountain in search of 'treasure'. There was what amounts to a haunting by an insane ritual suicide guarding the tomb (one fully capable of killing and that killed the person who brought him there). Laying it to rest left Thara's mind in something described as 'rags' and without the ability to speak to the dead. Deserved? He would not begin to know. I lean no. (I know this is a lot - sorry, I tried to translate and condense and I'm not sure I succeeded in keeping it coherent).

4. Has any of the above happened on the barge? If so, where? Which people were involved?
5. Is there anything in particular you DON'T want Kahl to know about your character? If so, it will be chalked up to his partial barge nerfs.

Nope. Brand shiny new to the barge.

Also, separately, in terms of general god vision,

5. Is your character inhuman, or do they have anything strange going on with the state of their spirit/soul? If so, can Kahl have a sense of what's up with that, even if he doesn't have the language from his own canon to understand it?

Knock yourself out. He's an elf and while his ability to speak to the dead is currently non-functioning, he is a cleric (and favored by) of Ulis , who is the god of god of death, the moon, dreams, rebirth, and the wronged.
